En la primera etapa del blog, postee una nota sobre Gil Evans. En ella recomendaba una grabación de Gil que constaba de increibles versiones de los temas clasicos de Hendrix. Esta es la historia de ese gran disco:
“En agosto de 1970 participe en el concierto de la isla de Wight. Jimi estaba allí. Se suponía que él y yo nos reuniríamos después en Londres para hablar de un álbum que habíamos decidido hacer juntos”.... “Yo tenia que marcharme a Francia para una serie de actuaciones, y después volver a Nueva York. Gil Evans me llamo cuando regrese y me dijo que el y Jimi iban a reunirse y que quería que yo asistiera y participase. Respondí que asistiría. Estábamos esperando que viniera Jimi, cuando nos enteramos que había muerto en Londres” (los dos parrafos anteriores están extraídos de la autobiografía de Miles Davis). Gil había trabajado en arreglos de temas de Hendrix para su big band, seguramente con la idea de concretar un álbum con el trío Davis/Hendrix/Evans. De esa experiencia fallida, nace este excelente disco editado en 1974. Reunió para grabarlo a una orquesta repleta de estrellas: Hannibal Marvin Peterson, Lew Soloff, Tom Malone, David Sanborn, Howard Johnson, Ryo Kawasaki y John Abercrombie entre otros. Los arreglos ideados por Evans le dan a los ya clásicos temas de Hendrix un toque jazzero y Funk que vale la pena disfrutar. No se olviden que el gran Gil fue el arreglador y coautor de los mejores álbumes que Miles hiciera con grandes orquestas. Una excelente ocasión para escuchar al indispensable Hendrix versionado por unos de los mejores músicos blancos de Jazz de todos los tiempos. Gil resignifica la musica de Hendrix, exponiendolo a la variopinta paleta de sonidos que utilizaba usualmente en sus discos, sin quitarles nada de la energia y el groove de las versiones originales. La esencia sigue ahi, el blues y el hard rock tambien, pero filtrados por la magica sutileza del extraordinario gil. Esta en "Deptsounds" para bajar (ver links).
